Lithuanian Festivals meet in Vilnius City Hall
On 22 May 2018, more then 100 Lithuanian festivals gathered to discuss notonly the cultural but also the economic and social impact of festivals. The meeting was organised by the EFFE Hub in Lithuania, the National Association of Creative and Cultural Industries. Its director Roma Survilienė stressed the importance of national networking in order to consolidate the organizations of the creative sector, increase their efficiency and dialogue with politicians.
Director General of the National Philharmonic Society, and Board Member of the European Festival Association, Rūta Prusevičienė noted that the festivals should be seen and included in the political dialogue, as festivals create not only cultural but also significant economic and social value.
Jan Ove Hafstad, head of the Sweden Festivals, presented a range of activities of Swedish and Finnish festival associations, talked about opportunities and challenges of the festival's cooperation.
Discussions at the forum included national and international networking initiatives, festival communication and promotion, sponsorship and financing issues, relevance of socio-economic impact assessment of festivals. The discussion in the groups helped to highlight the issues and cooperation needs of the Lithuanian festival industry. There are many cultural festivals of high art level and recognition in Lithuania, but their economic and social impact on the city and the state has not been studied more thoroughly, there is no evaluation methodology, little information exchange, and therefore a clear need for a general information platform. It was agreed that cooperation between festival leaders would be important for the development of constructive dialogue with politicians in state and municipal institutions.
The first festival forum was attended by over a hundred participants - cultural festival leaders, artistic directors and coordinators who represented 65 Lithuanian festivals, among which are Vilnius Festival, Cinema Spring, Kristupo Summer Festival, Mados Infekcija, The New Baltic "Vilnius Jazz", "Vilnius Mama Jazz", "Loft Fest", "Moon Juodaragis", "Bistrampolis Festival", "Blues Nightingales", "Galapagai", "Visaginas country", "Pažaislis muzikos festivalis", " Rusnets Festival, Japan's Now Japan Culture Festival, the Kintai Music Festival, the Žagarė Cherry Festival and many others.
