The Academy Award® and BAFTA-qualifying festival is one of the leading annual film events in the UK, featuring a vast and eclectic selection of filmmaking with priority selection for under-represented talent. Last year the festival presented a huge variety of exceptional films at over 300 screenings and events at 30 venues over 16 days. LIFF welcomes submissions of features and shorts, narrative or documentary and ‘live action’ or animated, and awards $7,000 in cash prizes in its short film competitions. Leeds is the birthplace of cinema as the world’s first moving images were captured on Leeds Bridge in 1888 by Louis le Prince, and today the city’s enchantment with cinema continues with the festival celebrating its 31st anniversary in November.
