The Kaustinen Folk Music Festival, established in 1968, has held a firm position for five decades as one of the most important folk music events in Europe. It plays a crucial role in preserving and promoting folk traditions, and offers an irrepressible blend of professional and amateur musicians, Finnish and international folk music and dance, performances, workshops and jam sessions. In 2016 the 7-day festival had over 42,000 visitors, 1,500 performances, 50 workshops and 4,500 performers.
