International Festival of Children's Theatres

Subotica International Festival of Children’s Theatres is an annual event dedicated to children’s/puppet theatre (*selection priority being given to the latter) held in both indoor and outdoor venues since 1994.
Held in Subotica, a picturesque multicultural city of enchanting beauty and over six centuries long history, standing in the furthest north of Serbia between the Danube and Tisa rivers and just a few kilometres away from the border to Hungary, on the great road connecting Europe and the East, the Festival attracts international theatre professionals, directors, producers, performers, cultural tourists and prominent members of Serbia’s theatre scene, not to mention plenty of appreciative locals (children with their parents, teachers, etc). The range of performances presented within official selection is diverse and dynamic – the emphasis being on their artistic quality. The organizers particularly seek visually/multi-sensory expressive performances which either reflect and deliberate on issues important to children growing up in contemporary world, push artistic boundaries by creating innovative theatre that is exhilarating, stimulating, and emotionally moving for audiences and performers alike, or are bearers of tradition and cultural heritage found in the folk tales, myths, legends, songs, thus providing audience with the unique possibility to directly experience the cultural richness of Europe and the rest of the world.
Besides official selections, the festival includes an accompanying programme encompassing street theatre/outdoor performances, touring performances (festival performances throughout Serbia and in Hungary), a film programme, scientific gatherings (conferences), puppetry/creative workshops, exhibitions, book promotions and publishing.
