The Folklore Dance Festival "Diamantis Palaiologos" is held on the island of Skopelos (26-28 August 2017), by civil non-profit company PLEGMA and the Region of Thessaly, under the auspices of the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO, the Municipality of Skopelos, the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Greek National Tourism Organisation. It is also a member of the European Association of Folklore Festivals. Its organisers and the large team of its volunteers have a vision to establish the festival as an open celebration that will bring together dancers and groups from all over the world, and turn the spotlight on Skopelos as a centre of folklore and tradition. Organized in honour of our teacher, Diamantis Palaiologos, the festival is dedicated to tradition, dancing, volunteering and contribution, inviting everyone to take hold of our hand and dance on the beautiful island of Skopelos. Numerous groups from all over Greece and abroad as well as volunteers from Greece, Italy, Spain, Turque and USA have taken part in it, definetely contributing to its success, while more than 7.500 people watch for free its performances every summer. The Festival promotes intercultural dialogue and cultural exchanges, as well as an in-depth understanding of tradition and folklore. Through the hands-on experience with folk dancing, staging performances, speeches, workshops and activities to strengthen relations of the participants, with the island of Skopelos as the background, young dancers build relations of cooperation and intercultural dialogue.
