Every October leading lighting designers gather in the small city of Alingsås along with 60 international design students to create beautifully lit outdoor environments. For 5 weeks, the installations remain on display to the public to chase away the darkness. Outdoor spaces are turned into oases of light that provide new and attractive urban venues. Lights in Alingsås brings around 80,000 visitors annually and it has become the largest lighting event in public spaces in Northern Europe.
Sommerblut is a cultural forerunner. The Cologne based festival thinks ahead if it comes to developments in society.
