From June 09-18 2017, leading Bach interpreters will be exploring the »A Beautiful New Song « Musik and Reformation at the Bachfest Leipzig 2017, including the Leipzig St. Thomas’s Boys Choir, Sir John Eliot Gardiner with the Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists, Vox Luminis, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Dunedin Consort, Mendelssohn Kammerorchester, Vozes del Ayre, Cameron Carpenter, Rick Erickson, Eric Erickson Chamber Choir, as well a large number of excellent choirs and orchestras from Leipzig. New to the programme are comparisons of versions of Bach’s main works and the introduction of a Cantata Day. In this anniversary year of the reformation, we will be honouring Martin Luther is closely linked with the reception of Bach’s works for especially the cantatas. Again this year, The Bachfest Leipzig will be presenting open-air concerts of classical music with Bach arrangements on Leipzig’s Market Square, virtuoso jazz and a promenade concert in Leipzig city centre. The highpoint of the »b@ch for us!« programme for children, families and teenagers will be provided by the Bach meets Sibelius, made up of young singers from Leipzig and Finland. The Leipzig Bach Festival is this year set to welcome visitors from 35 nations, which places it among Germany’s great international music festivals. The 2017 festival offers 120 events, some of them in historic Bach venues such as the churches of St. Thomas and St. Nicholas in Leipzig. The main private patron of this music festival is Sparkasse Leipzig.
