AlbaNova is a festival for musical connoisseurs, curious ears and cultural adventure-seekers of all ages. In a historical decor that sparks the imagination, visitors will find a varied range of classical concerts, provocative creations, workshops and installations. Whether you are listening attentively in the intimacy of a chapel or historical salon, singing along at the top of your voice, relaxing in the grass or enjoying a local dish: AlbaNova creates rich and pleasant surroundings where the experience of music, discovery and immersion flow naturally into one another. Above all, we focus on music makers, families, children and young people.
Music is the sound of time passing. Time to listen, enjoy, move and be moved. AlbaNova 2017 and its festival guest Romina Lischka (viol) go in search of the historical and cultural role of music in the experience of time. From Christian liturgies of the hours and Islamic calls to prayer that give rhythm to the day to Indian ragas and ambient music that make time supple and fluid. From historic canon techniques to a symphony for 100 metronomes. Be sure to keep Sunday 25 June 2017 completely free in your diary! We will get up with the dawn chorus at the very break of day and carry on until the king falls asleep to the sound of timeless night music.
AlbaNova is organised by Musica, Impulse Centre for Music and Landcommanderij Alden Biesen - with the support of Piano's Maene, Klara and the Flemish government
